I have mentioned in my previous blog that I very much like the Bowen Therapy. Well now I am learning that Bowen Therapy is doing more to help people with Autism and I think that is wonderful so I thought I would share what I found :)
This information is from http://clic4bowentherapy.ca/BOWEN_THERAPY_FOR_AUTISM.html
Children and adults with special needs are challenged daily, while in a constant state of imbalance. A good complimentary therapy for children and adults with special needs, can provide an opportunity to calm and redirect the nrevous system from Sympathetic - high energy reactive behavior, into rest, relax, and repair mode of the Parasympathetic nervous system. It also has an impact on the ENS (Enteric Nervous System) of the small and large intestines. Providing some relief from gut pain.
For children and young adults under the umbrella of Autistic Spectrum disorders, it is difficult to maintain concentration, be attentive, or get a normal nights sleep do to:
* Heightened sensitivities of the sensory system
* Varied levels of gut pain
Bowen Therapy Technique can aide in these situations by allowing a shift to occur into the rest, relax, and repair function of the Parasympathetic branch of the nervous system. Allowing for an opportunity to experience a calm and relaxed sense of well-being.
There is so much more information on the website above and I highly encourage every reader that has a family member that has the challenge of Autism to read it.
Sarah had Bowen Therapy when she was little, but do to the costs at the time we could not keep up with it and I sure wish we could have. Bowen Therapy helped to keep her as calm as possible without having traditional medicine at the time. That within itself was amazing.
Now that Sarah is older and on her own (she has a home with staff members helping her) I am going to advocate more for her to get these treatments again. I believe the Bowen Therapy is one of the treatments that really helped her.
Here are some other links that talk about Bowen Therapy and how it can help people with special needs. Please take a look at them and do your own research. I think you will find them very interesting.
