Autism, Hannah's Hope, Pets and Service Dogs

When Sarah was about 7 years old we got a beautiful cocker spaniel puppy for a pet, whom she named Jake. We had know idea about service dogs back then.

Jake was awesome with Sarah. Even though he paled around with all of us, he seemed to have a special connection with Sarah. Jake learned how to handle Sarah's behaviors and would stay by her side whenever she would just take off.

I think that Jake would have been a great candidate to be a service dog for Sarah. Sarah learned trust and compassion for all animals because of Jake's persistence and loyalty toward her. She knew that he would not let her down.

Jake is no longer with us now (doggie heaven) but Sarah was also raised with Woody and Samantha whom she loves as much as she did Jake.

Sometimes Sarah's staff will take Sarah to the dog shelter so she can pet the dogs and she likes that.

I am so thrilled that there are service dogs available to people not only with Autism but with any challenge. Service dogs are not cheap by any means. They are specifically trained animals tailored to your specific need. The positive change in your child's life because of a service dog is priceless.

There are many children and adults that need service dogs but do not have the funds to get one. One girl that I know of is Hannah. Hannah is a diabetic and is trying to raise money to get her Diabetic Alert Service Dog. You can got to her fb page called Hannah's Hope to make a donation if you like at   https://www.facebook.com/4hannahshope?directed_target_id=0 click on this link and learn about Hannah's story.

Sarah did not get a service dog, but maybe Hannah can with all of our help.
